Banning social media for teens doesn’t just stop bullying.
Adults think that it will make suicide numbers go down but I think it might not be so.
Because teens would most likely be bored and lonely since they aren’t on a screen if they can’t go to hang out with friends or go somewhere with them.
Or they could get bullied and that would be worse in real life because there could be harm physically, but when it is on a screen there can’t be. You just do not engage with the bully. Sometimes it is also just nice to share our thoughts with others our own age.
I agree that it would be good for children to have a break from their devices, but if parents want that to happen then they can put a screen time limit on their child’s device. To require that children have to be 16 or older in my opinion it’s too old I feel as 13+ would be more suitable for most because they would likely be more mature by then.
Another thing is, if they were a teenager or child who was doing something that shouldn’t be allowed, for example, they can give one warning and then ban them, and if it is too bad then they should get kicked off the app. There could be a chart that identifies how bad it would be and what would happen to them giving them guidelines.
Also adults in Government are doing this to children not knowing how they really feel. I don’t think they would like to have it banned for themselves. Of course there will always be many sides to an argument or story but listening to all opinions before making judgments would be best to consider all sides and viewpoints.
This subject has been discussed a lot since Australia banned social media for under 16’s- read more here
