It doesn’t cost anything to be kind
By being “the rainbow” in somebody’s stormy day is such a lovely way to think about being kind to others.
Even a simple smile can go a long way.
How often does a good mood do a U turn when your happy greeting is barely acknowledged by a cashier with a grizzly uninterested response.
The grizzly response can easily affect your mood for a while at least, that’s if you choose to take notice of it.
Happiness and kindness go hand in hand
It is a well known fact that when you are in a positive, happy frame of mind, you tend to be kinder to others.
There is a very close connection between happiness and kindness, and kind people will experience more happiness in everyday life and soon become happier and more grateful in life.
When we are kind or when we witness an act of kindness, we produce a hormone called oxytocin which is sometimes referred to as “the love hormone”.
Oxytocin is associated with empathy and trust and is known to improve our self esteem.
It is also believed to lower blood pressure and improve our overall heart health.

Kindness also includes being kind to yourself.
Are you kind to yourself and do you take good care of yourself?
Sometimes when caring for others, we forget to care for ourselves.
If you are caring for a loved one who is battling illness, you will already be finding it difficult, as it is harder to watch a loved one suffer than suffer yourself.
It is important to remember to be kind to yourself, even if it is as simple as accepting an offer of help from another to mow the lawn, or to make a meal.
The best way to teach kindness is to start young and lead by example.
By teaching our children the positive effects of being kind, and how they can make a positive influence in another person’s life makes sense to most of us.
We can change their thoughts around the negative stereotypes society instils in us, especially when it comes to those that are different or worse off than us.
The elderly, who often suffer in silence from ageism and the loneliness of living alone as husbands and wives pass away need our love and kindness too.
Be graceful and remember none of us are perfect.
Be hospitable, helpful, thoughtful, sympathetic, loving, gentle and friendly.
Try to be understanding and practice tolerance always.
