The importance of music
Maddie ( aged 11) wrote….
“Music can make a huge difference in peoples lives.
I find that music calms me down when I’m mad or when I’m sad.
We all need music in our lives as it is important that we think about ourselves every once in awhile.
I know that some people may not like music, but that could be because they haven’t found their type of music.
Music has the ability to change our mood- it can even change us and sometimes it’s like it has it’s own personality.
It’s weird but good!
Even weird music can comfort and soothe us, so if you are feeling sad or down try listening to some music.”
We all need music
Maddie continues….”you can basically listen to music whenever you like, on a run at school, or on a bike ride or even at work sitting at your desk.
Research tells us that music can boost your memory, lighten your mood and reduce anxiety and depression.
Music kind of has a “super power” – it kind of creates our personality- it is something that everyone needs!”

From personal experience, when my husband was dying, the music we listened to helped us both. We sang and danced together even when it got really bad. Music helped in so many different ways.
In fact, there is a link then between music and memory– when we hear a particular song, have you ever wondered why we feel strong emotions, rather than just being able to recite the lyrics?
Soundtracks of our lives
It does not matter what age you are, there will always be a song that will take you back to happy times, or even sad times.
We can choose the music just like we can choose our attitudes.
So Maddie, yes, music is something everyone should enjoy, no matter what age they are, as there are so many benefits of music.
