Happiness is different for everyone

My eleven year old granddaughter Maddie recently described her meaning of happiness in the picture that is featured in this blog.

We all feel emotions but wouldn’t it be nice to feel more happiness than sadness?

The happy little Endorphins

What we know is that we really need endorphins to function properly as they give us that feeling of happiness and wellbeing.

They reduce stress and are natural pain relievers.

Endorphins are endogenous opioid neuropeptides and peptide hormones in humans and other animals.

They are produced and stored in the pituitary gland. Read more here

Often when we exercise, maybe go for a ride on our bikes, or take a brisk walk, we will feel good because the body releases tiny neurochemicals which are known as endorphins.

Why do we sometimes not get enough Endorphins?

Researchers are still trying to understand why the body sometimes does not produce enough endorphins.

One might experience things like moodiness, depression, aches and pains, or perhaps have trouble sleeping, or show signs of impulsive behaviour, when we do not have enough endorphins.

Ways to boost our Happy Endorphins

  • Listen to music
  • Go for a walk
  • Do a gym work out
  • Swimming
  • Laughter and companionship
  • Exercise by gardening
  • Be creative
  • Plan a special meal
  • Go dancing
  • Ride a bike
  • Massage
  • Volunteer and help others

Being happy never goes out of style, so it is something very worthwile to work on.
